And now, a word from our chief engineer

Pressure Seal or (Mother-in-law) ?

Which would you choose?

1.) Kiss your mother-in-law hello (she is visiting for a month).

2.) Root canal (a long needle the size of a jack hammer along with the screaming drill and the smell of hot enamel - yech!).

3.) Removing a metal pressure seal after an extended thermal and pressure cycling life - double yech!

Not much of a choice - huh? Well, I can't do much for you on these items, but EGC can make future pressure seal removals almost as pleasant as bringing home the pizza on Friday night.

EGC pressure seals are constructed of a flexible graphite core with metal caps top and bottom. The caps contain the graphite thereby giving the EGC pressure seal a service life that non-sheltered graphite seals can not enjoy. Containment of the graphite protects the operation from graphite contamination into the system. Loss of graphite also means mass loss, then seal failure. Standing close to a catastrophic seal failure at 2000 PSIG would give me an instant water weight loss.

With this construction, EGC pressure seals have enjoyed a variety of sealing success stories and the list continues to grow. One part of the success story is due to the cost savings. There are three major areas of savings:

1.) Seal cost is substantially less than the metal seals.

2.) Inventory is less because a new size pressure seal may not be needed when sealing surfaces have been machined as is needed with metal seals. The EGC pressure seal was purposely subjected to test where the sealing surfaces had keep groves and bodies machined out-of-round. The seal still functioned with no sign of leakage.

3.) Removal is simple - no more calling home and telling the family to go ahead and eat without you because the (Mother-in-law) metal seal ring is too hard to remove. For EGC pressure seals, simply loosen the nuts and push the bonnet away. In many cases, the weight of the bonnet is enough to break the joint. You will also find the sealing surfaces in much healthier condition than with metal seals. There will be times when there is no damage.

Just think - saving money, easy removal, positive sealing, long life; that sounds like more than just a pat on the back, that sounds like a bonus (we promise not to tell your mother-in-law how much you got)!

See you then!
